Reliq won't start with MIDI-powered device connected

What’s the issue?

When an accessory that draws small amounts of current for power is connected to the Reliq, Reliq will not power on properly. Instead it gets stuck on a grey screen

How to reproduce

Connect device that draws small voltage amount over MIDI connection like a Merger
Power on Reliq

Expected Result:
Reliq starts and the MIDI device is available for use

Actual Result:
Reliq boots up but stays on grey screen

Workaround: Start Reliq and then connect the MIDI device (see video)

Thanks a lot for the super clear explanation and the video @monospace0 🙏 That really helps. We’re already looking into this. Unfortunately, we don’t have a MIDI Solutions Merger in hand right now, so it’s tricky to reproduce exactly on our side.

Would you be able to try the same boot sequence with the Merger connected to MIDI OUT 2 and/or MIDI OUT 3 instead of OUT 1? That would help us narrow things down 🙂

I tried with outs 2 and 3 and could not replicate the issue. So it seems to be isolated to the first MIDI out.

And it looks like I can use the other outs as a workaround for now

Thanks a lot for testing that @monospace0 🙏 That really helps narrow it down.

It looks like devices that require MIDI power on boot can sometimes trigger Reliq’s DFU mode when connected to MIDI OUT 1 before startup. Unfortunately, we don’t have an immediate fix for this right now, but as you mentioned, using MIDI OUT 2 or 3 is a good workaround.

We’ll also make sure to add a clarification about this in the next manual revision. Thanks again for helping track this down!
