Internal jitter in drum mode

What’s the issue?

I updated the Reliq to 1.7.0 yesterday and noticed that the jitter between drums in Drum mode is quite high. I tested with only kick and snare, and sometimes the timing difference between hits is large enough that it sounds like a double hit.

What I observed is that when I started a new project and triggered only kick and snare, the jitter was much lower. It feels like Reliq struggles more when the load is higher.

I uploaded a small recording that shows the problem. Sometimes the jitter is even higher then what the recording captured.

Thanks for reporting this and for sharing the recording.

Load and note timing/jitter should not be directly related in Reliq because of the way the timing architecture is designed. We’ve already tried to reproduce this internally with projects under different loads, but we haven’t been able to reproduce the behavior so far.

We have seen similar behavior before when MIDI mergers, splitters, routers, or other MIDI management devices are placed between devices, so it would be useful to understand the exact routing.

Could you please share the following?

What drum machine / device is connected to Reliq?
How is it connected? TRS MIDI or USB MIDI?
Is it connected directly to Reliq, or through an external MIDI router / merger / splitter?
If the target is software, which DAW or software are you using?

We’ll keep looking into this on our side as well.

I also firmware updated the Neuzeit Drop which acts as a midi hub. I will do further investigations, maybe take the Drop out of the setup for a test. My Synclavier ("drum machine") is connected to the Drop via TRS and the Reliq also thru TRS to the Drop.

Reliq is working fine - the direct connection tests work as you said. It can onluy be Drop.
